As an alternate idea, you might be able to either use something you have or something you find locally.
My Blackberry included a headset which I never used but it works fine with my iPod touch. I didn't have purchase one however you can find it at Amazon here - http://www.amazon.com/Research-In-Motion-HDW-14322-001-BlackBerry/dp/B000ROK7UM
Also, many times Deals, Big Lots, or Dollar General has *cheap* iPod/iPhone and cell phone accessories. You can likely find one there if you just check a few times. Of course Best Buy has better quality ones available including the official Apple brand which is $30. (ouch!)
